The AVI-8 Flyboy Eagle Squadron Automatic Bronze 85th Limited Edition commemorates the 85th anniversary of the Eagle Squadrons – American volunteer pilots who flew for the RAF before the US joined WWII. The collection includes three distinct variants, each representing a historic squadron and location: Gravesend (AV-4145-01), Southend (AV-4145-02), and Coltishall (AV-4145-03).
These watches feature a genuine bronze case designed to develop a unique patina over time and a 'hidden courage' dial that reveals a secret inscription under UV light: 'First from the eyries / For liberty / Let us to the battle'. Each variant is distinguished by its color scheme: Gravesend features a black sunburst dial with a blue leather strap, Southend sports a blue sunburst dial with a brown leather strap, and Coltishall highlights a green sunburst dial with a black leather strap.
All models utilize a compact 39mm case with a notable 15mm thickness, emphasizing a rugged yet balanced pilot's watch silhouette. The commemorative package includes an additional strap – either a secondary leather or NATO style – and anniversary-themed packaging to honor the squadron's legacy.
The collection is powered by the reliable Miyota 8215 automatic movement, a Japanese caliber featuring a 42-hour power reserve and a 21,600 vph frequency. The movement is visible through a sapphire exhibition case back, which also bears the squadron's eagle emblem and a unique limited-edition number.
With only 175 pieces produced per variant, the Eagle Squadron 85th edition is a rare, technically robust tribute to aviation history.
