Big Yank was launched as a workwear maker by Reliance (Reliance Manufacturing) based in Chicago, Illinois in 1919. Big Yank created a lot of innovative details from pockets to cuffs to yokes, and famous brands also imitated the details, developing products with high design while being a traditional work wear manufacturer.
A new chapter for Big Yank, with vintage specialist Yutaka Fujihara of Tokyo's infamous BerBerJin joining the brand as Creative Director, working alongaide the guys at 35 Summers. The debut collection draws on Big Yank’s archive, bringing its workwear heritage into a contemporary setting.
The Y1944 HBT Shirt is based on an original 1940s Big Yank shirt from Fujihara’s personal collection. It is made from high-density herringbone twill, carefully developed to reproduce the substantial texture of the HBT fabrics used for USMC uniforms during WWII. Dyed using vat dyes in a deep purplish navy known as 'Nasukon', the fabric will develop its own character with wear and washing, gradually revealing the fading associated with vintage pieces.
The relaxed, boxy fit features wider shoulders, body and sleeves, with vintage details including a distinctive single-stitch collar. Will shrink minimally, but expect about 0. 5 inches in the length and width after the first wash. 100% cotton Sulfer dyed - Nasukon Herringbone twill (HBT) Based on 1940s original Single stitch collar Signature Big Yank chest pocket Made in Japan
