History

The Peshawari chappal originates from the north-western regions of the Indian subcontinent, where it developed as practical footwear suited to hot climates, rugged terrain, and long hours of wear. Its distinctive closed or semi-closed toe, sturdy leather build, and secure strap offered protection while allowing airflow.

Over time, the style became widely worn across North India, especially in regions like Punjab and Rajasthan. Indian artisans refined the Peshawari chappal into a cultural and lifestyle staple – worn with traditional attire as well as modern clothing. Today, it stands as a symbol of functional heritage, combining regional craftsmanship with timeless practicality.
