In Japanese aesthetics, beauty is rarely found in full light. It is found in light moving through darkness. This technique, drawn from the lacquer art of the same name, layers a light-absorbing black lacquer-like base with gold powder and gold-toned paste, so the gold reveals itself gradually rather than all at once.
The patina rewards attention. Its depth shows itself slowly, with wear and with time, asking the wearer to look closely rather than glance past. You have to spend time with it for its full character to come through. *The style shown in the product photographs is presented to demonstrate the Makie Patina Concept.
