BUZZ RICKSON'S BR35856 Chambray Short Sleeve Work Shirt Blue

About this product

The chambray shirt adopted by the U.S. Navy is one of the longest-serving utility shirts in American military history – issued continuously from the 1930s to today. The Buzz Rickson's BR35856 is a faithful reproduction of the version adopted in the 1950s, preserving all the period-correct construction details that gave the original its unmistakable character.

The fabric is a 100% cotton Japanese selvedge chambray – a plain-weave cloth with an indigo-dyed warp and white weft that creates the classic soft, hazy blue tone. Unlike denim, chambray is lighter, airier, and has a clearer surface structure with a dry, direct hand feel. The loose tension of the weave – characteristic of period chambray – means the fabric shrinks and softens with repeated washing, developing the distinctive faded patina that defines vintage examples over time.

Construction reflects the classic details of the 1950s original. The shirt features side gussets at the hem, a traditional collar with a collar stand, a full front placket, and two chest pockets – details that define the 'old-fashioned' specification of the early- and mid-century military issue. Every element is faithfully reproduced, from the selvedge accents to the simple, functional silhouette that has kept this shirt in service for nearly a century.

Fit Notes: This shirt fits true to size. Compared to most global American brands, a size 15 (M) fits similarly to a standard American Medium. As always, we strongly recommend checking our size chart and comparing it with your best-fitting shirt to find the perfect size.
