Buy NowThe Deluxeware 7640 1940's Denim Shirt stands as one of the brand's most popular pieces and a definitive statement in their collection. This original design challenges conventional reproductions, meticulously developed to balance heritage authenticity with contemporary wearability.
The fabric is a 10.5oz indigo denim crafted from American Memphis cotton, finished with six-layer indigo rope dyeing and constructed in a 3/1 twill weave that delivers rich, evolving texture and exceptional fade potential. The denim is woven on vintage shuttle looms in Ibara, Okayama Prefecture, producing a naturally uneven yarn texture that develops outstanding vertical fading with extended wear.
Sewing takes place entirely in-house in Odate, Akita Prefecture, using Union Special sewing machines and vintage equipment dating from the late 1800s to the 1960s. This long-selling design – present since Deluxeware's founding – fuses subtle elements from classic shirts, coveralls, and jackets into a single slim, tailored silhouette.
Construction details borrow generously from 1940s work shirts. The inner collar is lined with 11oz duck canvas and topped with a throat tab, while the same canvas reinforces the inner cuffs and chest pocket for extra strength and character. Riveted buttons are tucked away under a hidden placket, creating a clean, smooth front that draws attention to the distinctive chest pocket.
The 100% cotton construction delivers authentic aging and a refined feel, embodying Deluxeware's philosophy of evolving American vintage for future generations.
Fit Notes: This shirt runs small. Deluxeware tends to run smaller than standard American sizing, so we recommend sizing up one from your usual size for a comfortable fit. Deluxeware also offers USM and USL sizes, which are larger than XL and feature a more regular, less tailored cut. As a reference, we strongly recommend checking our size chart and comparing it with your best-fitting shirt to ensure the right fit.
