Buy NowThere are a lot of waffle knit shirts out there, but none like this. When we made the first version of our Wool Waffle Knit Shirt, we worked with a mill in Italy to develop a fabric that showed us just how good a 100% wool waffle knit could be. This time, we wanted to take everything we loved about that fabric, make it heavier and more substantial, and bring the knitting here to the United States.
The new version is knit in New Jersey from 100% wool and comes in noticeably heavier than the original. A size Medium in the previous version weighed approximately 1. 25 lbs. This new version weighs approximately 1. 55 lbs. That extra weight gives the fabric more body, more structure, and an even more substantial feel.
The waffle knit construction creates natural loft throughout the garment. That loft traps warm air when you need it while still allowing excess heat and moisture to escape. Wool naturally regulates temperature, and the three-dimensional waffle structure only adds to that versatility.
What makes this fabric especially unique is how substantial it is without sacrificing comfort. We specifically chose a high-quality wool that can comfortably be worn directly against bare skin. You get the weight, warmth, and structure of a heavy wool garment without the coarse, scratchy feeling people often associate with wool.
That means you can wear it however the conditions call for it. Directly against your skin as a base layer, over a T-shirt as a mid layer, or on its own as a substantial outer layer. It’s heavier than most crewneck sweaters, but it isn’t just a sweater. It’s one garment that can fill several roles throughout the colder months.
We also wanted to take some of the worry out of owning a 100% wool garment. Before a single shirt is cut, the fabric is washed to remove approximately 95% of its potential shrinkage. By doing this at the fabric stage, we’re able to stabilize the material before it ever becomes a finished garment. The result is a 100% wool shirt…
