HIROSHI KATO The Hammer Mammoth 17.5oz Indigo Raw

About this product

KATO' by Hiroshi Kato crafts premium selvedge denim inspired by the classic vintage blue jean. Their Premium Japanese 4-Way Stretch Selvedge denim story starts in Japan where the fabric is developed at one of the oldest denim mills. KATO blends a unique 4 way stretch material with selvedge denim to create a specific amount of stretch and comfort you wouldn’t typically get with selvedge denim. This 360 degree of stretch gives the wearer comfort from every angle no matter what they are doing. KATO's 4-Way Stretch selvedge fabric is woven using vintage shuttle looms. Rolls of denim fabric are then brought into the workshop in Los Angeles where each pair goes through a 60 to 90 day process of cut, sew, washing and testing. With 4 fits available in multiple weights and washes, the style options are endless.

Kato have pushed the limits of their 4-Way Stretch Selvedge to create The 'Mammoth,' a heavyweight 17.5oz raw selvedge denim with a satisfying rigid hand and substantial texture, finished with a unique bordeaux red selvedge ID, polished silver buttons, and a navy leather patch. Nick Noguchi worked closely with a renowned Japanese mill to develop this one of a kind denim.

Heavyweight denim is uncommon because of how difficult it is to produce. Combining this heavyweight with Kato's super accessible 4-Way Stretch Selvage results in a next level denim exclusive to Kato. This denim has the same look and comfort of our lighter 4-Way Stretch Selvedge, but is thicker and even more durable. This serves as an excellent next step for current Kato wearers, as well as a great way to get into heavyweight denim a little bit easier. Why heavyweight denim? The thickness of the denim plays a big part in how the denim fades. The stunning results of a pair of well worn heavyweight jeans is why denim connoisseurs around the world seek out these heavier denim weights.
