Buy NowThe Momotaro Sashiko Work Shirt is a refined interpretation of Japanese heritage textile craftsmanship, combining traditional technique, depth of texture, and timeless workwear design. Crafted from 100% cotton sashiko fabric, this shirt is inspired by the historic Japanese 'Amekasuri' (rain pattern) motif, a subtle pattern reminiscent of falling rain.
The sashiko surface is built through three-dimensional embroidered stitching, creating a fabric that feels richly textured yet remains supple and comfortable against the skin. Unlike flat woven patterns, the raised embroidery adds depth and visual movement, giving the shirt a distinctive, tactile character. After construction, the fabric is over-dyed in indigo, allowing the stitches and base cloth to absorb dye at different rates. With wear and washing, the shirt develops a beautiful, high-contrast patina, unique to each wearer.
Design-wise, the shirt is based on a classic work shirt silhouette, thoughtfully refined for modern wear. The back features double action pleats on both sides, providing ease of movement through the shoulders while maintaining a clean, balanced appearance. A compact collar keeps the look sharp and understated, while the overall fit remains comfortably relaxed, making the shirt equally suited for standalone wear or layering.
Durable yet elegant, textured yet wearable, this sashiko shirt perfectly embodies Momotaro’s philosophy – honoring traditional Japanese craftsmanship while creating garments built to age with character and purpose.
Fit Notes: New Momotaro shirts run true to size. If you wear a size M in American t-shirts, you should select a size M in this one. However, body types vary, so we always recommend checking our size chart for the perfect fit.
