The Moonstar Gym Classic Sneakers are a true expression of Japanese shoemaking heritage, handcrafted in Kurume, Japan, using the traditional kiln-fired vulcanization process.
This labor-intensive method, mastered by only a handful of skilled artisans, ensures a perfect bond between the rubber sole and upper, resulting in sneakers that are flexible, durable, and built to retain their shape over time. Each pair is fired for approximately 70 minutes at 120°C, a process that cannot be replicated by modern mass production techniques.
The design draws inspiration from 1950s and 1960s military training shoes, once standard issue in the U.S. Army. The result is a clean, slim silhouette with a refined, understated aesthetic that works effortlessly across styles.
Lightweight yet robust, the Gym Classic offers all-day comfort while maintaining a strong, structured feel. With over 150 years of shoemaking history, Moonstar continues to uphold this rare manufacturing tradition, delivering footwear that balances heritage, function, and timeless design.
Fit Notes: Moonstar sneakers generally run slightly large. We recommend sizing down one size, especially if you are between sizes or prefer to wear them with thinner socks. In most cases, you will need to go one size down from your usual UK/US size. If you have wider feet, you may prefer to stay with your usual size for a more comfortable fit.
