The Moonstar Hi Basket Sneakers draw inspiration from classic basketball shoes, combining a clean, vintage aesthetic with the precision of Japanese craftsmanship.
Handmade in Kurume, Japan, these high-tops are constructed using the traditional kiln-fired vulcanization process – a rare technique that ensures a strong, lasting bond between the upper and sole. Each pair is fired for approximately 70 minutes at 120°C, resulting in sneakers that are flexible, durable, and highly resistant to wear.
The upper is made from premium cotton canvas, paired with a full rubber guard, toe cap, and toe reinforcement, enhancing both durability and protection. The high-grip rubber outsole ensures stability, while the high-top silhouette adds structure and a classic athletic look.
A key detail of this artisanal process is that even the attachment of the upper to the sole is done by hand, following the shape of the last and secured with tape – something modern machines cannot replicate.
Backed by nearly 150 years of shoemaking heritage, Moonstar continues to preserve this traditional manufacturing method, delivering footwear that blends function, craftsmanship, and timeless style.
Fit Notes: Moonstar sneakers generally run slightly large. We recommend sizing down one size, especially if you are between sizes or prefer to wear them with thinner socks. In most cases, you will need to go one size down from your usual UK/US size. If you have wider feet, you may prefer to stay with your usual size for a more comfortable fit.
