Chino cloth, made the way ONI makes denim. The 271-SVCOL is cut from an 8oz vintage-style selvedge chino twill in which both the warp and the weft are yarn-dyed olive – the color sits inside the thread rather than on the surface, which gives the cloth stronger colorfastness, a deeper olive, and a fade that comes slowly and evenly, as patina rather than contrast. The two faces of the fabric differ: smooth on the inside against the skin, slightly rugged on the outside, and the outside grows more uneven the longer it is worn.
The cut is ONI's Just Right Straight: the 270 pattern, adjusted here to the behavior of the chino cloth. It is a regular straight with a comfortable high rise that sits a touch higher than the 288, more room through the thigh than the 288, and a leg that runs straight from the knee with a subtle taper to an 8.1' opening on a 31 – clean enough to read as straight. It is the most adaptable shape in the range, at home with boots, sneakers or dress shoes, and worn smart or casual without changing anything.
Construction follows the brand's five-pocket standard: ONI's branded copper doughnut buttons, hidden rivets on the back pockets, raised belt loops, a vegetable-tanned leather patch and a vintage white selvedge ID at the outseam. The fabric is unsanforized and one-washed, so no further shrinkage is expected. Produced in very limited quantities. 100% cotton. Made in Japan.
Fit Notes: This model fits true to size for ONI: the tagged size matches the actual waist measurement. Compared to most global American brands, sizing is similar or slightly smaller, so you may take the same size or one size up. The chino twill is sanforized, so no further shrinkage is expected; the waistband will give slightly with wear.
