These Washi Pile Crew socks are crafted from crisp Washi (Japanese paper) yarn, boasting a refreshing pile lining. Derived from natural Manila hemp fiber, which is also utilized in paper currency production, Washi yarn offers excellent water-absorbent and moisture-wicking properties. Despite the usual challenge of pile knitting Washi yarn, the combination of a special machine and artisanal craftsmanship has made it possible to achieve.
The sock production in the northwestern part of Nara Prefecture is thus originated from the area’s centuries-long tradition of the weaving industry. And that is why Rototo places more value on manufacturing that requires a lot of discussion with factory craftsmen who preserve the tradition and history. Rototo’s socks can be made only with a combination of the right material, the right machine and craftsmanship. They aim to preserve the tradition inherited from their ancestors.
