SAMURAI JEANS S0510XXII 15oz "Otokogi" Regular Straight Jeans

About this product

If one pair stands for Samurai Jeans, it is this one: the brand’s 15oz regular straight, cut in the denim the brand calls Otokogi. The yarn is a slubby #6 cotton thread spun with the small bits of cotton waste deliberately left in the mix, and the cloth is woven on vintage shuttle looms run to the edge of what they can take. What comes off the loom is rough in look and in hand, with neps and slub breaking the surface – and it is exactly that irregularity that produces the high-contrast fades this fabric is known for. The silver lamé selvedge runs the outseam, the brand’s reference to the Japanese sword.

The cut is vintage in feel without being a costume: a little room around the waist, a straight leg with a gentle taper to the hem, and a leg width that sits between slim and wide – the balance most people are looking for in a five-pocket jean.

The leather patch is exclusive to this model, drawn from the classic Samurai patch: the warriors Musashi and Kojiro, the moon, pine trees, a Shinto torii gate and Mt. Fuji, with two seagulls added to mark these jeans as the successor to the S0510XX. The rest of the hardware follows suit – iron 'hinode' sunrise buttons, copper coin-shaped rivets, an exclusive flasher, and pocket bags jacquard-woven with 'shogyo mujo' (諸行無常), 'all things must pass' – a reminder stitched into a garment that will prove it. One-washed. 100% cotton. Made in Japan.

Fit Notes: Samurai Jeans run small compared to most global American brands, so we recommend sizing up one from your usual size. The cut is a regular straight with a little room at the waist and a gentle taper to the hem. The denim has been one-washed, so no further shrinkage is expected; the waistband will give slightly with wear. We don’t recommend sizing down, as starting too tight may cause discomfort and alter the intended fit of the garment. As always, we strongly recommend checking our size chart to find your perfect size.
