SAMURAI JEANS SJ52BK Black Back Satin Baker Pants

About this product

Samurai’s SJ52BK Black Back Satin Baker Pants reinterpret the iconic U.S. Army Baker fatigues through the brand’s unmistakable lens of heavyweight construction, textured fabrics, and obsessive Japanese craftsmanship. Known for their long-running olive fatigue pants, Samurai now introduces this silhouette in a deep, sulfur-dyed black, creating a darker, more urban take on classic military workwear. Originally exclusive to Samurai’s Osaka flagship, this version remains a rare and highly sought-after piece.

The fabric is where these truly stand apart. Woven in Japan from 15oz selvedge back satin, the cloth is produced on vintage shuttle looms using thick, uneven yarns rather than the fine threads typically found in standard back satin. The result is a dense, tactile fabric with pronounced texture and a slightly crisp handfeel that feels closer to denim than traditional fatigues. Despite the '15oz' weight, the material carries real substance and structure, softening gradually with wear while developing beautiful highs and lows, subtle fading, and a rich, lived-in patina unique to Samurai’s fabrics.

Cut with a mid-high rise and relaxed straight silhouette, the fit stays true to the original military specification while offering modern comfort and versatility. Room through the top block allows easy movement, while the straight leg keeps the profile clean and balanced – equally at home paired with boots, sneakers, or heritage footwear.

True to Samurai’s standards, the construction is packed with thoughtful details: custom black pinewood buttons, large patch front pockets, flap back pockets, bartack reinforcements at stress points, and a subtle yet striking silver selvedge ID along the side seams – a quiet nod to Samurai’s denim roots and a finishing touch appreciated by those who value craftsmanship down to the smallest element.

Fit Notes: These Samurai pants run slightly larger than most other Samurai jeans. We recommend choosing your usual size. However, as always, we…
