Woven from a custom-developed 14oz sashiko selvedge fabric, the denim is engineered to replicate the dense, textured surface typically associated with hand-stitched sashiko. By increasing the weave density to an extreme level, Studio D’Artisan achieves a material with a rich, almost knurled texture, delivering both visual depth and a uniquely tactile feel.

The yarns are dyed using the traditional kase-zome method, with both warp and weft threads dyed through to the core using a high concentration of indigo. This results in a deep, vivid indigo tone with exceptional saturation. Unlike conventional denim, the aging process unfolds differently – revealing layered, nuanced fades that highlight the fabric’s intricate structure rather than sharp contrasts.
