Buy NowThe Studio D'Artisan 4619 Type II Jacket is a meeting point of expert weaving and masterful dyeing techniques. It showcases a richly textured sashiko fabric in a deep kasezome-dyed indigo – a combination that yields exceptional fading and character as the 14oz fabric breaks in over time.
The fabric is an original 14oz selvedge sashiko denim woven on a vintage power shuttle loom. To faithfully reproduce the unique texture and heavy quality of traditional sashiko, the weaving density has been maximized – creating a dense, uneven surface with pronounced vertical and horizontal character. The deepest indigo threads are dyed using the traditional kasé-dye method in both warp and weft directions, achieving a rich, layered color tone unlike anything conventional indigo can produce.
All the classic hallmarks of the Type II silhouette are present – from the knife-pleated front to the dual chest pockets and the boxy, structured cut. Take a closer look, however, and you'll find a subtle set of hidden handwarmer pockets – a thoughtful, functional refinement of the original design. The jacket has been reworked with more room from chest to armhole for easier wear, delivering a perfect balance of classic and contemporary proportions.
Construction details reflect Studio D'Artisan's signature attention to authenticity. The jacket features metal shank buttons, engraved rivets, adjustable waist buttons, and an original deerskin leather patch. The fabric has been one-washed, so no further shrinkage is expected.
Fit Notes: This jacket fits true to size for Studio D'Artisan and most Japanese brands. Compared to most global American brands, a size 42 fits similarly to a standard American Large. We recommend taking your usual size for a comfortable fit. As always, we strongly recommend checking our size chart and comparing it with your best-fitting jacket to find the perfect size.
