'Ishikawadai' ring spinning machines are the oldest Japanese ring spinning machines still in operation, maunfactured by Ishikawadai Seisakusho Co. in 1953. These machines spin the yarns quite slowly, down to a third of the speed of modern machines, so it takes a long time to make effective rolls of fabric using Ishikawadai machines, while also requiring the oversight of an expert with years of experience on the machines. While the production is costly and time consuming, the end result is very much so worthwhile. The old-school nature of these machines places less strain and tension on the yarns, so the cotton retains its natural characteristics, passing on gentle textures and a uniquely soft handfeel to the finished fabric.
