Buy NowBased on an early 1950s vintage version of Levi's 507XX Type 2 denim jacket, The Flat Head reproduces this jacket to perfection. This version might be even better than the Original introduced by Levi's in 1953 using the iconic Flat Head denim, known for its high-contrast and super fast fades, including one of the strongest and most beautiful vertical fading ('falling') we have ever seen.
The jacket is finished with built-to-last reinforced details and vintage-inspired hardware as original iron buttons that will age beautifully. Both sleeves are reinforced with original copper rivets and bar tack to strengthen that area of the fabric and increase longevity.
This jacket also features other superior quality details such as rear scalpel buttonholes, wich prevents the overhang thread from wearing and a vegetable-tanned deerskin leather patch.
The cut maintains the style of the original type II fit with room for layering but has a slightly longer vertical length and slimmer sleeves. In addition, it features an adjustable waist and pleated backside.
The Flat Head is one of the benchmark Japanese repro Americana-style brands. Its founder, Mayashi Kobayashi, is known in the scene for being a die-hard fanatic of 1950s American style. Inspired by the music, motorbikes, cars, architecture of the era, and with a clear rockabilly influence, Kobayashi created in 1996 a truly authentic brand that today has some firm devotees. It stands out for the extreme quality of each one of its pieces. The brand is always very much aware of a curious philosophy that believes that a product is fully finished only after the customer has worn and moulded it to themselves.
