THE STRIKE GOLD Loopwheeled Shawl Collar Cardigan Black

About this product

For those in-between days when it’s too cool for a T-shirt but not cold enough for a winter coat, the Strike Gold Black Loopwheeled Shawl Collar Cardigan is the ideal transitional layer. Combining substantial warmth, timeless design, and uncompromising Japanese craftsmanship, this piece sits perfectly between knitwear and outerwear.

Crafted from a premium 12oz loopwheel cotton fabric, this cardigan delivers outstanding durability, a soft handfeel, and reliable insulation. Finished in a deep solid black, the fabric offers a clean, understated appearance that pairs effortlessly with any wardrobe. Knit slightly tighter than traditional loopwheeled fabrics, it provides enhanced wind resistance while maintaining comfort and flexibility. The triple-brushed interior creates a plush, cozy feel against the skin, while the exterior remains tough and resilient.

The fabric is produced at the historic Kanekichi factory in Wakayama, Japan, one of only two workshops worldwide still operating traditional loopwheel ('Tsuri-Ami') knitting machines. These century-old machines rely entirely on gravity rather than mechanical tension, rotating at just 24 revolutions per minute and producing fabric for only 8–10 garments per day. This slow, stress-free process results in a fabric that is exceptionally dense, strong, and naturally soft – widely regarded as the finest sweatshirt material available today.

Finished with a chunky shawl collar, this cardigan provides added warmth around the neck while delivering a refined, workwear-inspired silhouette. Practical details include three front pockets for everyday use and reinforced elbow patches for long-term durability. The result is a versatile, timeless garment designed to be worn hard and appreciated for decades.

Fit Notes: Strike Gold cardigans run small – one or even two sizes smaller than your regular American size. As always, we recommend consulting our size chart for the perfect fit.
