At 876gsm – 25.8oz per square yard – this crewneck carries close to twice the fabric density of a standard heavyweight sweatshirt, and it is a different garment for it: warmer, more structured, with a weight on the shoulders that reads as substance rather than bulk. It is made in Wakayama, the Japanese city whose circular-knitting mills set the standard for this kind of fabric.
The cloth is a French terry developed for this piece, knitted on low-gauge (10G) circular machines so the face carries a subtly irregular texture with real depth. Inside, the terry forms large, plush loops that cushion the skin, and the surface has been lightly brushed for a half-fleece effect – the loops stay visible, but they are gently raised, so the interior feels softer and fuller while keeping the character of the knit.
The garment comes one-washed and pre-shrunk, which sets the fabric and keeps further shrinkage at home to a minimum. The cut is a modern athletic fit, with classic sweatshirt details: a ribbed binder collar with a vintage-style V-gusset, raglan sleeves for freedom through the shoulder, and ribbed side panels, cuffs and hem that give the body structure without restricting. Made in Japan.
