Originally introduced during the Korean War as an evolution of the earlier M-48, the M-51 was designed as part of a layered system, allowing it to be worn over standard-issue gear for protection in extreme cold. This version stays true to the early 1951 model, constructed from heavy 100% cotton satin with a dense, wind-resistant feel.

Functional military details include a Crown aluminum spring automatic lock zipper, Mil-Spec urea buttons, and brass snap closures. The cuffs are fitted with rubber strap adjusters to help seal out the cold, while the slash pockets are lined with 26oz wool for added insulation.
