Buy NowMiddletown, Pennsylvania’s Rough Wear Clothing was awarded five contracts to manufacture the A-2 flight jacket for the U. S. A. A. F. This version was based off the second contract: AC18091. Though the military typically specified horsehide to be used for A-2s, this rare production lot utilized goatskin, possibly due to a shortage of leather.
Goatskin has a much smaller yield than horsehide so its quite rare to see large pattern pieces, like the single piece back you find on this jacket. The leather has a striking vertical grain, and is instantly supple out of the box.
