Buy NowA timeless fusion of American workwear heritage and traditional Japanese craftsmanship, this Japan Blue Type II Jacket reinterprets a denim icon through the lens of indigo-dyed sashiko fabric. Constructed from a lightweight yet durable 11oz sashiko cloth, it pays homage to both the form and function of garments once worn by Japanese firefighters and martial artists.
The fabric features a distinct sashiko stitch pattern – a centuries-old reinforcement technique – that adds texture, structure, and a deeply tactile quality to the jacket. Rope-dyed in rich indigo, the surface offers vibrant depth and is designed to evolve beautifully with wear, developing personalized fades and character over time.
While the silhouette stays true to the original 1950s Type II in terms of construction – including the absence of side pockets – the fit has been subtly modernized with a slightly slimmer cut for a cleaner, more contemporary profile. Combined with traditional Japanese textiles, this jacket becomes a bold reimagining of a classic, crafted to age with grace and purpose.
Fit Notes: Despite being a Japanese jacket, we find the sizing of this coverall to be more Western than Japanese. If you usually wear a size M in American jackets, you'll find a suitable fit with this jacket in size 40 (M). However, as always, we recommend consulting our size chart for the perfect fit. It is unsanforized but one washed, so there will be no shrinkage.
