MOMOTARO JEANS MMOT6311 Embroidery MA-1 Jacket Navy

About this product

The Momotaro MMOT6311 Embroidery MA-1 Jacket is a refined collision of two iconic garments – the military MA-1 flight jacket and the Japanese souvenir jacket. Originally developed in the 1950s for U.S. fighter pilots operating in pressurized cockpits, the MA-1 replaced earlier leather flight jackets with a lighter, more streamlined nylon design. Momotaro takes that proven silhouette and elevates it with details drawn from Japan's rich embroidery tradition.

The outer shell is crafted from high-density 66 nylon twill, the same type of durable nylon originally developed for military specifications. The fabric is thick and resilient, yet maintains a supple texture and refined sheen that gives the jacket a more polished presence than standard military reproductions.

The back panel features delicate tonal embroidery depicting Momotaro's signature pheasant motif alongside the word 'Japan', stitched entirely in matching navy thread. The effect is subtle and sophisticated – the design reveals itself through texture and light rather than contrast, drawing directly from the aesthetic of vintage sukajan (souvenir jackets) while keeping the overall look clean and understated.

The interior is lined with smooth polyester featuring a gradient-dyed finish, adding a quiet design detail visible only to the wearer. Polyester insulation provides lightweight warmth without bulk, staying true to the MA-1's original purpose as a functional layering piece.

Construction follows the classic MA-1 blueprint: snap-closure flap pockets at the front, a zippered sleeve pocket with an indigo-dyed leather pull tab, and knit ribbed collar, cuffs, and waistband for a clean, cropped bomber silhouette.
