Buy NowRooted in traditional Japanese workwear, the Studio D’Artisan Noragi Sashiko Shirt is a faithful reinterpretation of the historic noragi – garments once worn daily by farmers and craftsmen and repaired repeatedly through sashiko stitching to extend their lifespan. This piece reflects a time when clothing was valued, repaired, and passed down, embodying durability, practicality, and quiet beauty.
For this version, Studio D’Artisan recreates traditional Noragi Sashiko patterns, producing a richly textured fabric with subtle depth and character. The sashiko motifs form an irregular, check-like surface inspired by hand-stitched garments, while the deep indigo tones will continue to evolve beautifully with wear and washing.
The fabric is jacquard-woven, combining slub yarns and twisted yarns in different directions to recreate the warmth and irregularity of hand-made textiles. During the washing process, the fabric is intentionally allowed to shrink slightly, resulting in a dense, sturdy surface with pronounced texture that feels substantial yet comfortable.
Blending Japanese heritage with American workwear influence, the shirt is cut in a familiar work shirt silhouette, making it easy to wear while preserving its historical roots. The buttons are crafted from natural corozo nut, a sustainable material derived from fallen Tagua palm seeds, adding an organic finishing touch that complements the fabric’s character.
Fit Notes: Studio D'artisan shirts run true to size. If you usually wear a size M in American shirts, we recommend selecting a size 40 (M). As always, body types vary, so we suggest checking our size chart for the best fit.
