The Yonetomi Wave Cotton Knit Pullover is a refined everyday knit that blends vintage athletic inspiration with modern Japanese knitwear craftsmanship. Produced in Yamagata, Japan, by one of the country’s most respected knit factories, this pullover showcases Yonetomi’s mastery of yarn development and precise knitting techniques.
The fabric is knitted from a custom-developed, high-twist wave cotton yarn, exclusively produced for Yonetomi. The high-twist construction gives the cotton a dry, crisp handfeel with subtle texture and excellent breathability, while also improving durability and shape retention. Knit at a dense gauge (tight jersey knit), the fabric has enough weight and structure to feel substantial, yet remains comfortable and wearable year-round.
Thanks to the wave-textured yarn and compact knit, the pullover offers a unique surface character that elevates it beyond a standard cotton sweater. It delivers the casual ease of a sweatshirt while maintaining a cleaner, more polished appearance typical of fine knitwear.
The silhouette is inspired by vintage sweatshirts, featuring a boxy, well-balanced fit with a relaxed body and natural drape. This shape provides comfort without looking sloppy, making it easy to style on its own or layered under outerwear. Ribbed cuffs and hem offer gentle structure, while the solid color design emphasizes versatility and timeless appeal.
Despite its refined construction, this knit is designed for real life. It can be hand washed, making it a practical, low-maintenance option for daily wear. The result is a piece that feels understated yet thoughtfully engineered – an ideal example of Yonetomi’s philosophy of creating elevated basics built to last.
Fit Notes: We find the sizing of the wave cotton model to be more Western than Japanese. If you usually wear a size M in American pullovers, you'll find a suitable fit with this piece in size 2 (M). However, as always, we recommend consulting our size chart for the perfect fit.
